Now atleast i know this system and problem solving it and could explain every step that %#*@ wire does like a boss. It was a fleet vehicle. I've moved the ground around, replaced break switch, headlight switch, tail light circuit boards no luck. The B/W wire corresponds to the left side, the B/G wire to the right. Thought I had done a thourough job but still no change.

Turn signal and runninglights and emergency flashers all work. March 18 by Ryan Had the same problem..turned out to be a loose ground wire (broken terminal) on the front, lower, RH side of the engine. It's only $13 bucks and is the predominant issue with 1997 Chevy Trucks and the brakes not working especially if you reverse and blinker lights do work. A look at the schematic showed that this switch was the only common point for a single fault to cause both brake lights to be out.
