Naturally they denied any such fault as being commonplace, despite me being able to reference several sources online to indicate that it is by no means a one-off. I can still open the trunk from the key fob as well as the trunk release button under the dash. Sign in 2 Loading... I had a new strip fitted by my local dealer which cured the problem.

If a wire was rubbing on the bodywork somewhere else I might expect the short from that to at least be draining the battery.
