This is happening in IE 11 and 10. Background Color Not Working In Ie8 IE knows intranet sites based on sites entered into my IE options settings and "assumes" they must be IE 7 compatible. I was confused when they did not behave the same way (like Chris mentioned, "background:" would appear simply shorthand for all the "background-*" properties. As Ron confirms above the code will work fine in modern versions of IE.

I assume you are not forcing IE into ie8 mode with the IE meta tag? Is any fall back solution (for IE 8 or less it would should rgb color, for all others rgba)? The background:black (or background:#000) should have done it. this contact form the internet, and how a localhost would be considered differently than an intranet.
The site is on our intranet so I can't provide a link, but I think the issue is on my end with our server or machines. Has anyone else experienced this problem or have any suggestions on how I might fix it? The fonts are Source Sans Pro and Source Code Pro. How strange.
